A bidjar decorates every room
The origin of the bidjar lies in the province of Kurdestan, where there were originally three different carpet groups. These were Afshar, Halvai and Gerrus. While the latter were mainly tied by the local Kurds and were notable for their lower number of knots in terms of quality, the Afshar scored points with its outstanding look and feel. Real Bidjar carpets are knotted by men, using pure cotton as the warp and new wool only for the pile. To ensure that the look appears tight and firm, the weft threads are moistened beforehand and compacted very strongly with an iron comb. This explains why men tie it, because this activity requires a lot of muscle strength. The result of this complex knotting technique is a very dense and robust carpet that also impresses with its durability. Thanks to its soft feel, it is not only suitable for living rooms and bedrooms, but also for rooms with a lot of traffic such as a hallway. Thanks to its adaptable look, it can be perfectly combined with all furnishing styles and gives every room a particularly homely atmosphere.
